Vice Commander Area 5 Message
Diana Drake - July/August 2009 California Legionnaire Article

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all for your support and confidence in electing me at the 91st American Legion convention held in Riverside, to represent the 5th Area as Vice Commander.
The 5th Area officers, District Commanders and 1st Vice Commanders of District 21, 22, 25, 29 and 30  will be working together to ensure our membership and our  programs  in the greatest Area in California will again be the best.
While business is our priority, we hope to have some fun with the Vice-Commander’s fundraising project of the “Duckies” to support a fishing trip for disabled veterans.   My last name being Drake, I have given the District Commanders, 1st Vice Commanders and officers a “little ducky in uniform” which is to be present at all meetings and functions, or donate $5.00 to the Vice Commander’s Project.  I must admit, I was the first to donate. Although my “ducky” was nearby, I didn’t have it with me at the District 22 Installation when asked to present it. Also to help with the project, “Ducks in Uniform” will be available for those who wish to donate to the project.
Before the DEC in August, I will have attended District 21, 22, and 29 installations and working with Area Adjutant Joanne Evans, have a roster for the Area and schedule of visitations prior to our first Area meeting at Perris Post 595, District 21  on September 19 –20.  A schedule of meetings will be posted on the Department Website.  Always for God and Country...

Report of the Past Vice Commander 2008-09
 Lee Quarcilino

My year has been a rewarding one. I have learned and I have given. Most of all I have watched an Area within the state of California grow and flourish. That Area is my own.
I want to thank all of my officers, chairmen, District officers Post officers and the membership for all that they have done for themselves, posts, districts, area and the department of California. Our Nations Eagle in all its splendorYou have made me proud and I salute you.
Never give up on what you believe in. The veterans that we support and the youth of our nation are what we do and we do it well.
Membership once again is our greatest achievement. Being number one is a feeling that is unbeatable. Thank you all.
One of the great things this year is the veteran’s memorial dedication at Quechan Indian Nation in Winter Heaven, California.  One the most impressive sites to behold. The members of the Quechan American Legion worked hard and when everyone puts their efforts together you get great things. If you are ever in Yuma, AZ go over to see our Nations Eagle in its entire splendor across the river in CA.  I salute the members of the Quechan Nation American Legion Post.  May God Bless our Nation, our troops, our organization, and all of us.
