Visitation at Post 84, District 31, Area 1

Hearing from the attendees to the most recent Boys State and Girls State

On September 14th, the Vice Commander Representing Area 1, Court Bradbury joined the District 31 Legion and Auxiliary officers, at Post 84, in Auburn, for hearing from the attendees to the most recent Boys State and Girls State, that were sponsored by Post 84 and the Post 84 Auxiliary.

A nice turnout of Post 84 members and guests
A nice turnout of Post 84 members and guests was present to hear the experiences of 5 of the "Staters". From the audience view it might appear as a non-threatening situation.

However from the young persons view at the head table, it might look like a mob of unknowns, and we all know that the unknown can be really spooky.

One would think that there would be considerable nervousness on the part of these young people, being put in a postition of getting up and speaking in front of a stange group of adults

All the Staters gave wonderful narratives of their experiences.
Such was not the case.

These "Staters" rose to the occasion and gave wonderful narratives of their experiences at their respective campus.

In fact some of them did not use notes and maintained excellent eye contact with the audience

Area 1 Commander took the microphone to the audience
An impressive demonstration to be sure. However, it was when the Area 1 Commander took the microphone to the audience, that the true mettle of these students shown brightly.

A prepared speech is one thing, fielding spontaneous questions and maintaining ones composure, while providing a thoughtful response, is quite another.

These young men and women are our future, and it appears to be in good hands

Each of the "Staters" had no problem providing a reasoned answer to the questions put to them, using very good eye contact, gestures and body language.

These young men and women are our future, and it appears to be in good hands.

Well done Boys Staters !   Well done Girls Staters !
and
Well done Post 84 !
