Area 1 Meeting, Cottonwood, September 10-11th, 2005
The first Area 1, for 2005-2006, meeting took place in Cottonwood, at Post 746. On Saturday the 10th, the Area 1 District Commanders, distinguished guests, interested members and anyone else caught walking down the street in front of the Veterans Memorial Hall, met at Post 746 for coffee and donuts, followed by a very interesting "Post Adjutants Training Sesson".

The training session was more a process of the skilled and long time Adjutants sharing amongst themselves the methods each used to deal with specific areas of Post administration. One area that received a lot of attention was how to handle the DMS memberships distributed by the Department.

After the "Adjutant Training Sesson", the meeting took a break for lunch . . .
. . . followed by a PCC meeting, with veteran and active District 31 member, Paul McGinnis swing the gavel, as President of the Area 1 group. Much of the discussion centered around the use of District 31, Outpost monies by the State Board, when the State Board was not necessarily following the budget that had been adopted. The circumstances of the last State Meeting in Amador was brought up and someone asked if the Amador Post had been asked to donate the funds expended, off budget ?

Following the PCC Meeting, all the horses and men gathered for a meeting of the 40 & 8 to discuss the upcoming fall Cheminot, to be held at the Radisson Hotel, in san Bernardino, the 14th - 16th of October. Voiture 36 is hosting the event and a contact of the Cheminot Chairman Howard Wicks was provided, 909-883-7735.

Business for the day finished, the exhausted members present adjourned and retreated to their assorted lodging facilities, which each had diligently pre-arranged. Post 746 was gracious enough to offer a Satruday Night Dinner and Dance.

It was found by some to be interesting that the local firefighters had set up a table seeking donations. What an interesting idea .... why do not American Legion Posts simply set up a table seeking contributions at local service club meetings in their respective areas ? A couple hours in a local bar can result in a few bucks, without compromising oneself.

On Sunday the 11th of September, after the traditional coffee and donuts (well maybe not traditional, as the Post Commander could not locate any donuts in Cottonwood at 8:00 Sunday morning), the Vice Commander Representing Area 1 called the Area meeting to order. All of the Area 1 District Commanders were present.

Vice Commander Bradbury, following one of his two goals, recognized and thanked District 2 Commander Glen Mayer and Post 746 Commander Henry Cater, for the exceptional hospitality (the lack of donuts was not brought up).
The Area 1 meeting at Cottonwood was well prepared for by Post 746, which resulted in a very good and a productive meeting.

It was heard by a few, when one District Commander mentioned that, "This was the most productive Area meeting I've ever attended."
Well done Area 1, and thank you Post 746, and thank you District 2.
