I have been receiving some inquiries regarding the 2008 Color Guard competition at State Convention in Bakersfield, CA. The rules are posted below and on the National American Legion website www.legion.org go to National Convention then Color Guard Contest Rules. A few of the Past Department Sgt. at Arms have typically been the Judges. At the start of the completion there will be an inspection of Uniform & Equipment. The competition will be Presentation of Colors and Post & Retrieval of Colors.
This year we will only have an Open Class competition, because I feel we need to continue the theme Working Together for The American Legion Family. I plan on the contest to be held on Thursday June 19th 1400 hours. The winner of this contest will be asked to Post Colors at the opening of Convention Friday the 20th.
I have requested the Finance Commission to increase the Ritual Commission’s budget by $200.00 for the purchase of trophies and participation medals. Also in anticipation of the winner wanting to participate at the National Convention in Phoenix, I have requested a one time donation of $300.00 to assist in expenses.
