Mission Statement: To promote and teach the use of Ritual in all American Legion meetings as described in the official National Publications, e.g. Officer's Guide, to foster teams at all levels of THE AMERICAN LEGION for initiatory and installation at meetings, and to lend military pageantry to American Legion functions, particularly at patriotic holiday ceremonies and parades, and at State and National Conventions and to supervise contests of uniform bodies. |
Chairman’s Message: The Goals for this Commission are many. The first Ritual as a Member of The American Legion is the Initiation Ceremony and our last is the passing to Post Everlasting with a Memorial Ceremony with many more Rituals and traditional Ceremonies in between. Some of the Rituals and Ceremonies’ seem to have gotten lost and it is my goal to enhance the knowledge and activities of the membership at all levels from the Posts to Department. We are in a transition between the World War II/Korea/Vietnam War era Veterans and Veterans of Hostilities which involved the United States that began on August 2, 1990 to present. These young men and women Veterans are our future leaders that need guidance of this Commission and Membership in the Rituals and Ceremonies of The American Legion. It is also our goal to begin a book titled “The American Legion Rituals and Ceremonies” for publication that would be available to all members. This will take some time before publication, but we will be adding periodically written Rituals and Ceremonies to the Ritual Commission Webpage.
