    William Murray Heath
Larry E. Bennett Post 255, National City

William Murray Heath, USN Retired Master Chief October 21, 1918 to July 7, 2007 The world has lost one of its treasures with the passing of retired Master Chief William Murray Heath of National City, a patriot, a father, a friend. Bill Heath is well defined: strong, honorable, committed and fair. he had and supported his family of six children while, simultaneously, excelling in his 27 year Naval career through World War II, Korea, the Cold War and Vietnam.

He was a proud American, backed by sacrifice. His best friends were his Navy buddies. They spent many happy years camping, fishing and telling sea stories. Bill Heath was a fabulous story teller, and shared them with all those who visited him at his home for 59 years in National City. He shared more stories at the American Legion Post 255 in National City, where he was a past Commander. He faced life straight on, including blindness, for he was told there was no cure. He endured, and learned to function in the dark. When the doctor told him he could be helped, he faced eye surgery at the age of 86, and was overwhelmed that he could see once more. He believed it was truly a miracle.

His wishes were to be buried at sea. We scattered his ashes beyond Point Loma on July 22nd. As we did, tow Naval amphibious boats motored by, American flags flying in the sea breeze, and the sailors saluting our father and our process to lay him to rest. We did not plan that. God did. It was peaceful and perfect.

He also wanted to buy his family lunch. So we all gathered at a celebration of his life at the Harbor House. The entire family came: sons, Michael, Bill, Dennis and daughters, Kay, Cynthia, and Dianne. There were 46 of us in all, all family. Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins were all there to salute "The Chief." Bill Heath is a very accomplished man.

Theodore Roosevelt Post 21, Santa Rosa

Theodore Roosevelt Post 21 of Santa Rosa mourns the loss of one our favorites. "Bea" Howdyshell, who departed for Post Everlasting on Tuesday August 30, 2005.

"Bea" was the devoted wife of the late Lyle T Howdyshell "Howdy" - who was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and over 3 years of Japanese imprisonment. She carried the POW/MIA Flag faithfully at all of our parades as a tribute to her husband as well as all POW's and MIA's. .
