Two Legionnaires who truly support Resolution 169 “Support for the War on Terrorism” are asking for the help of all American Legion comrades.
It has been brought to our attention that Mrs. Cindy Sheehan plans to be in Crawford Texas during Easter week. Mrs. Sheehan, if you recall, has received national mainstream media attention for her less than respectful demonstration of her opposition to the war on terror.
Laura Youngblood, whose husband, U.S. Navy Petty Officer Travis Youngblood was killed by an IED last July, and U.S. Army Sgt. Gregory L. Wahl, and dad Leonard, plan to be in Crawford, Texas to support our troops. They are asking for the help of The American Legion.
Their request: contact families of a fallen soldier from Afghanistan and Iraq and ask them to join them in Crawford that week. If they cannot make it, they ask for an 8 X 10" or larger picture of their loved one on a hard backing they can use to counter-demonstrate in favor of our troops and our support for them. Please collect them and mail to:
Laura Youngblood 638 Maude Street South Hempstead, New York 11550
In his correspondence to National Headquarters, Mr. Wahl wrote: "I am a Legion member from Valley Stream Long Island in New York. We cannot allow Mrs. Sheehan to travel the country and overseas telling anyone that listens she talks for every wounded, fallen and those presently serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other hot zones. She does not talk for Laura's husband or my son. America did wrong to our Vietnam Veterans! We are not letting this happen again! I urge you to move on this TODAY. You can contact me at lwahl1@Sears.com -- Leonard Wahl."
Mrs. Youngblood can be contacted at laura_youngblood@msn.com <mailto:laura_youngblood@msn.com>. As you are all aware, no one in the Legion family wants to stifle the right to public dissent. However, it is fair to ask those who disagree with this war to do so responsibly. It is also our right to counter anti-troop messages with voices of hope and demonstrated support for our armed forces. This request is an offer to participate in this public display of support for the brave service members who are engaged in the war on terror.
Sheehan is co-founder of “Gold Star Families for Peace” which should not be confused with the “Gold Star Mothers.”
Please pass this word to your posts to help as they can.
