Candidate for: Department Commander 2009-2010
Dennis Fercho
Hello Legionnaires,
My name is Dennis Fercho and I am the leading candidate for Department Commander for the upcoming year 2009/2010. I am asking for your vote in Riverside and your support for the upcoming year. I was born in Nampa Idaho and raised in northeastern Oregon. I joined the U.S.Navy in 1962 becoming a Construction Electrician “SEABEES CAN DO”. Duty stations were recruit training at San Diego, N.A.S. Moffett Field, Port Hueneme for “A” school, Midway Island and then with MCB 10 at Port Hueneme. Assignments with the Battalion included Okinawa, Chu Lai and Vung Tau. I completed active duty in 1966. I then went to work for General Telephone Company retiring from Verizon after almost 38 years of service as outside cable maintenance and local manager. I am supported by my wife Linda, and my family who are all Legion Family members. I have the endorsement of my Post Camarillo 741, Ventura County Council, and the 16th District. I have been a member of the American Legion for 22 years and am a PUFL. At the Post level: I have served in all chairs, as Commander 1998-2000, currently Assistant Adjutant and on the Boys State and Legion Baseball Committees. I have served in all chairs of the Ventura County Council and Past Commanders Club Outpost 16. At the District level: I have served all chairs and was Commander 2005-2006, Executive Committee and am currently serving as Judge Advocate and on the Legion Baseball Committee. I have served as 6th Area Membership Chairman 2006-2007, Sgt. at Arms 2003-2004 and Legion Baseball Commissioner. At the Department level: I served as Department Sergeant at Arms 2007-2008, on the Ways and Means Commission, Resolutions Assignment Committee and am currently on VA & R 501 c3 Committee. I have been a Delegate to National Convention for the last 8 years. National assignments include VA & R Claims and Rating Resolution Committee and two years on Distinguished Guests Committee. I believe the American Legion is the world’s greatest organization with the greatest members dedicated to our Veterans’ (old & young), the Veterans family, the Community and the Youth or our Nation. I strongly support our Legion Family, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders. If elected I pledge total commitment to the Department of California, its programs and its policies. Again I am asking for your support and vote for the California “Can Do” Team; Department Sergeant at Arms Marilyn Rideaux and for Department Commander Dennis Fercho.
