The American Legion
 California Boys State Foundation |
What it is . . . The American Legion California Boys' State Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation, organized for charitable purposes. It is exempt from the State of California income tax under Section 23701(d) of the Revenue and Taxation Code, and from Federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. |
Purpose . . . To provide financial support to The American Legion California Boys' State program to educate students in the senior high schools of California in their rights and responsibilities as citizens of the United States of America. |
Capital Gifts . . . Contributions from individuals, families, businesses and other charitable foundations and organizations comprise the Foundation assets. Under certain conditions the assets produced by this capital is intended to be used for deserving civic, charitable, educational and benevolent purposes for the betterment of The American Legion California Boys' State program. Some contributors may wish to specify the manner in which their contributions are to be used. Others may desire to delegate the use of the funds to the discretion of the Foundation Board of Directors. For anyone wishing to benefit The American Legion California Boys' State program either during their lifetime or after death, the Foundation offers a variety of ways to make gifts as responsive as possible to the continually changing needs of the Boys' State Program. |
How it works . . . The Foundation governing body is the Board of Directors. It consists of eleven members. All of the Board members are members of The American Legion Department of California. This Board determines grant-making policies and authorizes all disbursements in the manner the donor directs, or, if it is completely unrestricted gift, it distributes the available funds in a way it believes will best meet the needs of The American Legion California Boys' State. |
Why is your gift so important ? . . . The American Legion California Boys' State is a self-supporting week long program. The expenses for operating each program are recovered by the sponsorship fees paid by each American Legion Post or cosponsoring private organization. The cost for food, housing and operations continue to escalate each year, and the need for funds to meet demands become more important. In order to ensure continued funding for the California Boys' State program, the Foundation was established. |
Why Give ? . . .
1. Your Gift is Perpetual — Because only the income is distributed each year, unless otherwise directed by the donor. 2. Simplicity — One gift to The American Legion California Boys' State Foundation may benefit any number of young students in the responsibilities of citizenship.. 3. Assured Effectiveness — The prudent judgment of the Board of Directors will assure the donor that the gift will be used effectively. |
